Theoretically, cannabidiol might have additive effects if used with other CNS depressants.
Preliminary clinical research, case reports, and animal studies suggest that high dose cannabidiol has sedative and hypnotic effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with drugs with sedative and anesthetic properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.

Tuinal combines two barbiturates (amobarbital and secobarbital), which are strong sedatives. They calm the brain to help with sleep or anxiety, but they already carry real risks of heavy drowsiness, slowed breathing, confusion, and unsteadiness. Adding CBD into the mix is the main concern here.

At higher doses, CBD can have its own mild sedative effect, so pairing it with these barbiturates could stack the calming effects together. That might leave you feeling extra sleepy, foggy, or dizzy. To be clear, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how the two work rather than strong human studies. Still, since barbiturates are powerful drugs, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them with any CBD product.

CYTOCHROME P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) SUBSTRATES

Amobarbital, Secobarbital also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, cannabidiol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2B6. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2B6 substrates might increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Tuinal combines two barbiturates, amobarbital and secobarbital, which are strong sedatives that your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP2B6. In lab (test tube) studies, CBD appears to slow that same enzyme down. The concern here is that CBD could let these barbiturates build up a bit more than expected, which might deepen their effects: more drowsiness, grogginess, slowed breathing, low blood pressure, or feeling unsteady on your feet.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It is theoretical, based only on lab data, and hasn't actually been reported in people. Still, barbiturates are powerful and unforgiving drugs, and both CBD and barbiturates cause sedation on their own. Please don't change anything yourself. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
