Theoretically, cannabidiol might have additive effects if used with other CNS depressants.
Preliminary clinical research, case reports, and animal studies suggest that high dose cannabidiol has sedative and hypnotic effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with drugs with sedative and anesthetic properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.

Here's the simple version: meprobamate already calms the brain to ease anxiety, and CBD, especially in higher doses, can add a little sedation of its own. Put them together and those calming effects may stack up. That could mean feeling more drowsy or foggy than usual, slower reaction times, dizziness, or trouble concentrating. Meprobamate is a true brain relaxant, so this is the kind of pairing where you don't want extra sleepiness sneaking up on you, especially before driving.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these two work rather than strong studies. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them so they can keep an eye on you.

Cannabidiol might increase levels of certain glucuronidated drugs.
In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT) 1A9 and UGT2B7, enzymes responsible for glucuronidation. Theoretically, this could decrease the clearance and increase levels of glucuronidated drugs.

Here's the gist for combining CBD with meprobamate. Your body partly clears meprobamate by attaching it to a sugar molecule, a process called glucuronidation. Lab studies (not human studies yet) suggest CBD can slow some of the enzymes that do this work. In theory, that could let meprobamate build up a little more than usual.

If that happened, you might feel more sedated than expected, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, slowed thinking, or feeling unsteady on your feet. The good news is this is based only on test-tube research, so it's a theoretical concern rather than something well documented in people. Still, since both can calm the brain, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them. Please don't change either one on your own.

What Is Meprobamate Used For?

Brand names: Equanil, Miltown, Meprospan, Neuramate

Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication.

Because its effectiveness beyond four months has not been well studied, meprobamate is typically used for a limited period of time, with a prescriber checking in regularly to decide whether continued use is still appropriate.
