Chitosan + Rabeprazole
Rabeprazole brand name: Pariet.
We found no known interaction between Chitosan and Rabeprazole in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Chitosan and Rabeprazole
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Rabeprazole and Chitosan in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Rabeprazole
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Rabeprazole is filed under 9 classifications — including proton pump inhibitors (ppis), cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) inducers. Chitosan has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being acyclovir (zovirax) (moderate) and warfarin (coumadin) (moderate) — and none of Rabeprazole’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Chitosan Does Interact With Other Medications
Chitosan has 3 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Rabeprazole isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Questions About Chitosan or Rabeprazole
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Chitosan or Rabeprazole, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:
- Which Acid-Reducing Drugs Are Safe With Plavix? ›
- Can You Take Adderall With Proton Pump Inhibitors? ›
- Does Omeprazole Cause Hair Loss? ›
Not quite your question? Ask our pharmacists directly — it is free, there is no account required, and answers usually come back within 24 hours.
See Every Supplement That Interacts With Rabeprazole
This page covers Chitosan only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Rabeprazole page lists 172 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 119 moderate · 50 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rabeprazole page
“Rabeprazole (Pariet) quiets stomach acid for reflux and ulcers, but its supplement list deserves genuine care, with three serious entries to understand before anything else. Most items matter because they change how the liver breaks rabeprazole down, so its level can drift up or down.”

- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Chitosan reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 20, 2026. The Chitosan and Rabeprazole records this page draws on were last updated July 10, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Chitosan
What is Chitosan?
- Weight management
- Lowering cholesterol
- Wound care
- General digestive supplement
Chitosan is a fiber-like substance made from the shells of shrimp, crabs, and other shellfish, often marketed for weight loss and cholesterol. The evidence for these benefits is weak, and any effects appear small at best. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but people with shellfish allergies and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be cautious.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Chitosan is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Chitosan record says about it on its own.
Chitosan: dosing
There is no official standardized dose for chitosan, and amounts used in studies have varied widely. Because of this, it is best to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them.Chitosan is often taken with meals and a full glass of water.

About Rabeprazole
What Is Rabeprazole Used For?
Brand name: Pariet
Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.
In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.

Rabeprazole Is Linked to Lower Levels of 9 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Rabeprazole as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Chitosan — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
