ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Iloprost
Iloprost falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Cnidium interacts with.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing Cnidium with Iloprost (Ventavis). While Iloprost is mainly a vasodilator that relaxes your lung blood vessels, it also has a mild effect of slowing platelets, the cells that help blood clot. Cnidium contains a compound called osthole that, in lab studies, also slows platelets and clotting. Stack the two together and you could nudge yourself toward more bleeding or bruising than expected.
In real life that might look like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that are slow to stop. Keep in mind this warning comes only from laboratory and animal research, not human studies, so it's theoretical and not a sure thing. Still, before you add Cnidium, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh it for you.
