Laboratory research shows that osthol, a constituent of cnidium, inhibits blood clotting and the activity of platelets. Theoretically, cnidium might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the situation with naproxen and cnidium. Naproxen is a common pain and arthritis reliever, but like all NSAIDs it can thin the blood a bit and irritate the stomach lining, which raises the chance of bruising or bleeding. Cnidium contains a compound called osthole that, in lab and animal studies only, slowed down platelets and blood clotting. So the worry is that pairing the two could add up and make bleeding more likely.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal research, not solid human studies. Still, since both can affect clotting, it's worth caution. Watch for unusual bruising, nosebleeds, black or tarry stools, or stomach pain, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
