In laboratory research, cnidium has been shown to have sedative and hypnotic effects, possibly related to constituent coumarins. Theoretically, cnidium may potentiate the effects of barbiturates, other sedatives, and anxiolytics.

Barbiturates like butalbital, phenobarbital, and secobarbital already calm down your central nervous system. They slow brain activity, which is why they can make you feel drowsy, foggy, unsteady on your feet, or slow your breathing if the dose is too high. These are not prodrugs, so they work as-is once they reach your system.

The concern here is simple: in lab and animal studies, cnidium itself showed sedative, sleep-promoting effects. So stacking it on top of a barbiturate could add to that sedation, leaving you extra sleepy or dizzy. To be fair, this is only theoretical right now, with no solid human evidence behind it. Still, since barbiturates are potent, I'd run this combination past your pharmacist or doctor first.
