ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Bromfenac Sodium
Bromfenac Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Cnidium interacts with.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing about your bromfenac eye drops (Prolensa or Bromsite): they're an NSAID, and NSAIDs as a group can gently nudge platelets and make bleeding a little easier. Cnidium contains osthole, which in lab and animal studies also slows clotting and platelet activity. So in theory, pairing them could add up to a slightly higher bleeding tendency.
That said, I want to keep this in perspective. With eye drops, very little medication reaches your bloodstream, so the practical risk is small for most folks. The bleeding concern is mostly theoretical and not proven in people. Still, since you're using these drops after cataract surgery, it's smart to mention any cnidium supplement to your eye doctor or pharmacist first.
