Warfarin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Cnidium interacts with.

Laboratory research shows that osthol, a constituent of cnidium, inhibits blood clotting and the activity of platelets. Theoretically, cnidium might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the gist: warfarin already thins your blood by lowering your clotting ability. Cnidium contains a compound called osthole, and in lab and animal studies it also seemed to slow clotting and make platelets less sticky. Stack the two together and you may be pushing your blood thinner than intended, which can mean easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or in rare cases more serious internal bleeding.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal work, not human studies, so we don't truly know how much it matters in real life. But warfarin is a drug where small shifts can change your INR, so I'd play it safe. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cnidium, and don't stop your warfarin on your own.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
