Here's the gist for warfarin: your body clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Corydalis contains berberine, which early research suggests may slow that enzyme down. If warfarin gets cleared more slowly, it can build up in your blood and thin it more than intended. With a tricky drug like warfarin, even small shifts matter, so that could mean a higher INR and a greater chance of bruising, nosebleeds, or more serious bleeding.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based on how the herb behaves in lab studies, not proven in people taking both together. Still, because warfarin leaves so little room for error, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them so your INR can be watched closely.

Here's the gist: warfarin is a true blood thinner (not a prodrug), and your liver clears part of it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest can mildly slow that enzyme down. Warfarin already lowers your blood's ability to clot, so anything that adds to that effect deserves a careful look. The concern here is that compounds in Corydalis yanhusuo, including berberine, may make platelets (the cells that help form clots) a little less sticky. Stacking that on top of warfarin could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk higher.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is based only on lab and animal studies, not real-world human cases, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Warfarin is a narrow-margin drug, so even small shifts matter. What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
