Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP2C9.

Here's the gist with Corydalis yanhusuo and your trimipramine (Surmontil). This herb may contain berberine, which in early research seems to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Trimipramine is one of the medicines partly handled by that enzyme, and it's an active drug (not a prodrug). So in theory, if Corydalis slows its breakdown, more trimipramine could linger in your body.

That could mean stronger tricyclic side effects: extra drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how things work in the lab, not proven in people. Still, before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
