Defibrotide Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Cnidium interacts with.

Laboratory research shows that osthol, a constituent of cnidium, inhibits blood clotting and the activity of platelets. Theoretically, cnidium might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing about pairing Cnidium with Defibrotide: this medicine is already given to thin the blood and prevent clots in your liver's blood vessels after a stem cell transplant. Cnidium contains a compound called osthole, and in lab studies it slowed clotting and made platelets less sticky too. So you're potentially stacking two blood-thinning effects on top of each other.

What that could look like in real life is easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding. I'll be honest though, this concern comes only from laboratory work, not from people, so it's theoretical. Still, Defibrotide is given in a serious hospital setting where bleeding is already watched closely, so please don't add Cnidium without first clearing it with your care team.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
