Here's the gist: Tasimelteon (Hetlioz) is a melatonin-like medicine that helps reset your sleep clock, so it already nudges you toward sleep. In lab and animal studies, cnidium (mainly its coumarin compound osthole) showed its own calming, sleep-promoting effects. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and leave you feeling extra drowsy, groggy, or foggy, especially the next morning.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This concern comes only from laboratory and animal research, not from real-world human studies, so it's more of a possible overlap than a proven problem. Still, since both can promote sleepiness, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

What Is Tasimelteon Used For?

Brand names: Hetlioz, Hetlioz Lq

Tasimelteon capsules are approved to treat Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder (Non-24) in adults. Non-24 is a condition where the body's internal clock does not align with the normal 24-hour day, causing sleep and wake times to shift continuously.

Hetlioz capsules are also approved to treat nighttime sleep disturbances in Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS) in patients 16 years of age and older. Hetlioz LQ oral suspension is approved specifically for nighttime sleep disturbances in SMS in pediatric patients ages 3 to 15 years.
