In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: Effient (prasugrel) already does one main job, it keeps your platelets from clumping together so you don't form dangerous clots after your heart procedure. The concern with cordyceps is that lab and animal studies hint it may also dampen platelet activity. Stack the two and, in theory, you could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This worry comes only from test-tube and animal research, and it has never actually been reported in people. Still, since Effient is a potent blood thinner, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cordyceps. Watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums that don't quit, and please don't stop either one on your own.

Cordyceps is a fungus used in traditional Chinese medicine for energy, exercise performance, and lung and immune support. Human research is limited and mostly low quality, so its benefits are not well proven. It appears generally well tolerated in the short term, but quality varies and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.

About Prasugrel

What Is Prasugrel Used For?

Brand name: Prasugrel

Prasugrel tablets (brand names Effient and Prasugrel) are used to lower the risk of dangerous blood clots — including clots that can block a stent — in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and heart attacks (both NSTEMI and STEMI types). It is used specifically in patients who are being treated with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which a catheter is used to open a blocked coronary artery, often with a stent.

Effient has been shown to reduce the combined rate of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, or nonfatal stroke compared to clopidogrel — with the benefit driven mainly by fewer heart attacks.
