Hyzaar combines two blood pressure medicines: losartan, which relaxes your blood vessels, and hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill that helps your body shed extra fluid and salt. Coriander, in animal studies, has shown a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. So the worry here is simple addition: if coriander nudges your pressure down a little while Hyzaar is already doing the heavy lifting, the two together could lower it more than expected.

This is theoretical and based only on animal research, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Cilantro on your tacos or in a salsa is not going to be a problem. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are a different story. If you ever feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Here's the thing to know about Hyzaar (a combo of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan): the hydrochlorothiazide part can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, meaning you may sunburn faster than usual. Coriander, especially in concentrated extract or essential oil form, contains a compound called coriandrin that lab studies suggest can also boost sun sensitivity. Put the two together and, in theory, you might be a bit more prone to burning or a rash on sun-exposed skin.

I want to be straight with you though: this is based on very weak, mostly test-tube evidence, and normal cooking amounts of cilantro in your food are very unlikely to cause any trouble. Just use everyday sun sense (sunscreen, a hat) and check with your pharmacist before using strong coriander supplements.
