Promethazine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Datura Wrightii interacts with.

Datura wrightii contains atropine and scopolamine, as well as other tropane alkaloids with anticholinergic activity. Concomitant use of Datura wrightii with anticholinergic drugs might increase anticholinergic effects and adverse effects. Some anticholinergic drugs include amantadine, atropine, belladonna alkaloids, phenothiazines, scopolamine, and tricyclic antidepressants.

First, a real safety note: Datura wrightii is genuinely poisonous, and I would never recommend taking it. It's loaded with atropine and scopolamine, which block acetylcholine in the body (what we call anticholinergic activity). Here's the catch: Promethazine (Phenergan) already has strong anticholinergic effects of its own.

So stacking the two means you're piling one drying, sedating drug on top of another. You could see exaggerated effects like a dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, urinary trouble, a racing heart, drowsiness, and confusion or even hallucinations. This concern is based on how the two work, not on direct studies, but the logic is sound and the plant itself is dangerous. Please don't combine them, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Promethazine

What Is Promethazine Used For?

Brand name: Phenergan

Promethazine is used for a wide range of conditions. Tablets, oral solution, and rectal suppositories (brands including Phenergan, Promethegan, and Phenadoz) are approved for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, hives (urticaria), angioedema, dermographism, and allergic reactions to blood or plasma. They are also used for motion sickness (both prevention and active treatment), nausea and vomiting related to anesthesia and surgery, sedation, and as a helper medication alongside pain relievers after surgery.

Promethazine hydrochloride injection (brands including Phenergan and Promethazine HCl injection) is used for many of the same purposes but is reserved for situations where oral treatment is not possible — including allergic emergencies as an adjunct to epinephrine, sedation during labor, and as an aid during certain surgical procedures such as bronchoscopy and eye surgery.
