First and most important: Datura wrightii is a genuinely poisonous plant, not a supplement, and I'd urge you to steer clear of it entirely. But to answer your question about midazolam (Versed, Nayzilam): midazolam is a benzodiazepine that calms the brain and slows breathing on its own. That's actually part of why it's used carefully and usually with monitoring before procedures.

The worry on file is that both can depress breathing, so using them together could add up and make slowed or stopped breathing more likely, which can be life-threatening. Honestly, this concern is based on limited, anecdotal reports, so it's not strongly proven. Still, given how dangerous datura is by itself, please don't combine them, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before any procedure.

Datura wrightii (sacred datura or jimsonweed relative) is a highly poisonous desert plant that has been used in some traditional and ceremonial settings. It is not a safe dietary supplement — even small amounts can cause severe poisoning, hallucinations, and death. We strongly advise against using it.

About Midazolam

What Is Midazolam Used For?

Brand names: Versed, Seizalam, Nayzilam

Midazolam is used in several different forms depending on the setting. Injectable midazolam (given by IV or IM shot) is used before and during surgery or procedures — such as endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, or bronchoscopy — to cause sedation, reduce anxiety, and prevent memory of the event. It can also be used to start general anesthesia or to keep heavily sedated, ventilated patients comfortable in a critical care unit. Midazolam HCl oral syrup is used specifically in children for sedation and anxiety relief before procedures or anesthesia induction, in a monitored medical setting only.

Nayzilam nasal spray is indicated for a different purpose: the acute treatment of seizure clusters (also called acute repetitive seizures) in people aged 12 and older who have epilepsy. It is used intermittently — not as a daily seizure medicine — when a cluster of seizures breaks through the person's usual pattern.
