Mepivacaine is a local anesthetic, the kind of numbing medicine your dentist or doctor injects before a procedure. It isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't need to be activated by your body to work. The concern here isn't really about how mepivacaine is broken down. Instead, it's that datura wrightii is a dangerous, poisonous plant that can slow your breathing on its own. If it's in your system around the time you get an anesthetic, those breathing-slowing effects could stack up.

To be honest, this warning is based only on anecdotal reports, so it's not well proven. But datura is genuinely unsafe at any dose. Please don't use it, and let your dentist or doctor know about anything you take before a numbing injection.
