Oxybutynin falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Datura Wrightii interacts with.

Datura wrightii contains atropine and scopolamine, as well as other tropane alkaloids with anticholinergic activity. Concomitant use of Datura wrightii with anticholinergic drugs might increase anticholinergic effects and adverse effects. Some anticholinergic drugs include amantadine, atropine, belladonna alkaloids, phenothiazines, scopolamine, and tricyclic antidepressants.

Here's the thing about pairing these two: oxybutynin already works as an anticholinergic, meaning it blocks acetylcholine to calm an overactive bladder. Datura wrightii contains atropine and scopolamine, which do the exact same kind of blocking. Stack them together and you're essentially doubling up on that effect.

What that could look like in real life with oxybutynin: a very dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, trouble emptying the bladder, a racing heartbeat, overheating because you can't sweat well, and in stronger cases confusion or hallucinations. This concern is based on how these compounds work rather than formal studies, but the logic is sound. On top of that, Datura wrightii is genuinely poisonous and we strongly advise against using it at all. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with your oxybutynin.

Datura wrightii (sacred datura or jimsonweed relative) is a highly poisonous desert plant that has been used in some traditional and ceremonial settings. It is not a safe dietary supplement — even small amounts can cause severe poisoning, hallucinations, and death. We strongly advise against using it.

About Oxybutynin

What Is Oxybutynin Used For?

Brand names: Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Oxybutynin, Oxytrol, Anturol, Gelnique

Oxybutynin treats overactive bladder — including the sudden urge to urinate, leaking before you can reach the bathroom (urge incontinence), and going too frequently. Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) and immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are used for these symptoms. Oxytrol is approved for overactive bladder in men; Oxytrol for Women is approved for overactive bladder in women aged 18 and older.

Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) are also approved for children 6 years and older who have bladder overactivity caused by a neurological condition, such as spina bifida. Immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are indicated for bladder instability symptoms — including urgency, frequency, urinary leakage, and painful urination — in patients with neurogenic bladder conditions.
