Here's the basic idea with DHEA and abciximab (ReoPro). Abciximab is a powerful IV antiplatelet drug given in the hospital, usually during heart procedures like stenting, to keep platelets from clumping and forming clots. Lab and some human research suggest DHEA can also dampen platelet activity on its own. Stack the two together and you could, in theory, tip the balance toward more bleeding or bruising than expected.

Now, the real-world honesty here: this concern is largely theoretical and rests on weaker lab evidence, not strong patient studies. Also, abciximab is given by your medical team in a closely monitored setting, so they'll be watching your clotting carefully. Still, please tell your doctor or pharmacist about any DHEA you take before a procedure. Don't start or stop anything on your own.
