Elbasvir, Grazoprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Dhea interacts with.

Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.

Here's the situation with Zepatier (elbasvir and grazoprevir) and DHEA. Both of these antiviral ingredients are partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some early lab-type evidence suggests DHEA might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, your body could clear these medicines more slowly, so a little more could build up than expected. With grazoprevir especially, higher levels can mean a bigger workload on the liver, which is something we watch closely in hepatitis C treatment.

I'll be honest, this is mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal data, so it may not cause any real-world problem. Still, since you're treating your liver, I'd run the DHEA past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than guessing.

What Is Elbasvir and Grazoprevir Used For?

Brand name: Zepatier

Zepatier is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 or genotype 4 infection in adults and children 12 years of age and older (or weighing at least 30 kg). It works against both the most common strain of HCV (genotype 1) and genotype 4.

Depending on the specific genotype, prior treatment history, and certain viral characteristics, Zepatier may be prescribed alone or combined with another antiviral medicine called ribavirin. Your prescriber will determine the right regimen and duration for your situation.
