Some Glyburide, Metformin Products Have a Food Rule — Dhea Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Glyburide, Metformin says to take it with food. If you take Dhea on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Glyburide, Metformin with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Glyburide, Metformin products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

For patients with type 2 diabetes whose hyperglycemia cannot be satisfactorily managed with diet and exercise alone, the recommended starting dose is 1.25 mg glyburide and 250 mg metformin hydrochloride once a day with a meal.

The evidence is mixed and limited for most uses, and because it acts as a hormone it can cause real side effects.
