Dulse and Indapamide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Indapamide and Dulse in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Dulse safety at a glance

Dulse overall Use caution Generally safe as a food, but supplements may contain high iodine and potassium and should be used cautiously.
Pregnancy Use caution Food amounts are likely fine, but avoid concentrated supplements due to unpredictable iodine levels and limited safety data.
Breastfeeding Use caution Limited data; excess iodine can pass into breast milk, so avoid supplement doses and check with your doctor.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Indapamide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Indapamide is filed under 5 classifications — including thiazide diuretics, diuretic drugs, qt interval-prolonging drugs. Dulse has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being amiodarine (cordarone) (moderate), antithyroid drugs (moderate) and digoxin (lanoxin) (moderate) — and none of Indapamide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Indapamide’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Dulse. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Indapamide’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 8 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Low potassium Worth acting on
  • High blood sugar Worth acting on
  • Chest pain Worth acting on
  • Low mood Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Indapamide. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 17,821 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Indapamide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Dulse’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Dulse side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Dulse has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Indapamide page

“A water pill like indapamide (Lozol) lowers blood pressure and pulls potassium down, and most of the 215 supplements and herbs on file press on those same levers. Thirteen entries rate major, so this is a list to read with real care rather than skim.”

About Dulse

What is Dulse?

Dulse
  • Nutritional supplement (iodine, minerals)
  • Source of plant protein
  • General wellness
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Thyroid/iodine support

Dulse is a red seaweed eaten as a food in many coastal cultures and is a natural source of iodine, potassium, protein, and antioxidant compounds. As a food it is generally considered safe for most people, but concentrated supplements can deliver large amounts of iodine and potassium, so use caution. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it medicinally, especially if you have thyroid or kidney problems.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Dulse is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Dulse record says about it on its own.

Dulse: dosing

There is no established standardized medicinal dose for dulse. As a food it is eaten in small amounts as flakes, snacks, or a recipe ingredient. If you use a dulse supplement, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Indapamide

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Indapamide
