Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in dusty miller.
Dusty miller contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Here's the twist with this pairing: the concern isn't really about your cancer drug being affected, it's the other way around. The toxic compounds in dusty miller (called pyrrolizidine alkaloids) get switched into their harmful forms by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Erdafitinib can nudge that enzyme to work faster, so in theory your body might convert more of those plant compounds into liver-damaging byproducts.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical worry based on lab data, not real patient cases, so I don't want to alarm you. But dusty miller already isn't considered safe to take on its own, and adding it while you're on a serious cancer therapy isn't worth the gamble. Please run any herbal product past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Erdafitinib

What Is Erdafitinib Used For?

Brand name: Balversa

Balversa (erdafitinib) is used to treat adults with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC) — cancer of the bladder or urinary tract — that has spread and has not responded to, or has gotten worse after, at least one prior round of systemic treatment. Patients must have a specific type of FGFR3 genetic alteration in their tumor, confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting.

Balversa is not recommended for patients who are eligible for — but have not yet received — a PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor (a type of immunotherapy). Those therapies should be tried first when appropriate.
