Dusty miller contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Here's the gist of this one. Lesinurad (Zurampic) can act as a mild booster, or inducer, of a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Dusty Miller contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which the body partly converts into harmful, liver-toxic byproducts using that very same enzyme. So in theory, speeding up CYP3A4 could mean more of those toxic byproducts forming, which puts extra strain on the liver.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based on lab and theory, not real patient cases, so it's far from certain. But Dusty Miller isn't safe to take on its own regardless, even without lesinurad in the mix. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Have a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Lesinurad Used For?

  • Lesinurad is used in combination with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor to treat hyperuricemia (high levels of uric acid) in people with gout (sudden attacks of redness, swelling, pain, and heat in one or more joints) whose disease is not controlled with their current medication. Lesinurad is in a class of medications called selective uric acid reabsorption inhibitors. It works by helping the kidneys to remove uric acid from the body.
