Here's the thing to keep in mind with Simponi (golimumab): it works by quieting down your immune system, specifically by blocking a signaling protein called TNF (tumor necrosis factor). That's how it calms the joint pain and swelling of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.

Elderberry is thought to do a bit of the opposite. In lab studies it seems to rev up the immune system and nudge those same signals (like TNF and interleukins) higher. So the worry is that elderberry could work against golimumab and theoretically blunt how well it controls your symptoms, possibly leaving you with more flare-ups. I'll be honest, this is mostly theory and not well proven in people. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding elderberry.

What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
