Let me be upfront: European mandrake is genuinely toxic, and I would never recommend taking it. But here is the specific concern with your Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide). Mandrake's tropane alkaloids slow down how fast your gut moves things along. In theory, when your digestive system slows, an oral pill like this one can sit in your gut longer and get absorbed more completely than usual.

If more of the medicine gets into your system, you might see a stronger effect: blood pressure dropping too low, feeling dizzy or lightheaded when standing, or more fluid loss from the water pill. Keep in mind this is a theoretical interaction based on how the chemicals work, not from real cases. Still, please don't use mandrake, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding anything new.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone — their effects are approximately additive.

The combination tablet may be used as a starting treatment or substituted when a patient has already been stabilized on the individual ingredients separately. It is generally suitable for patients with normal kidney function; patients with impaired kidney function should only use it when other treatments haven't worked or have caused unacceptable side effects.
