First things first: please don't take European mandrake at all. It's a genuinely poisonous plant, and there's no safe, proven reason to use it. Setting that aside, here's the idea behind this interaction. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids (atropine-like chemicals) can slow down how fast your gut moves things along. When your stomach and intestines empty more slowly, a medicine like lansoprazole (Prevacid) may sit in your system a bit longer and be absorbed a little more.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on how these chemicals work rather than real patient reports. With more lansoprazole on board, you could in theory notice more of its usual mild effects, like headache, stomach upset, or diarrhea. The far bigger worry here is mandrake's own toxicity. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with your medications.

About Lansoprazole

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
