ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina
Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Clinical research shows that daily flaxseed consumption, especially for longer than 12 weeks, modestly reduces blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Rauzide combines two blood pressure lowering ingredients: bendroflumethiazide (a water pill) and rauwolfia serpentina (which relaxes the nervous system to lower pressure). Flaxseed isn't broken down or activated by this medicine, so this isn't a metabolism issue. Instead, it's about adding two things that both nudge blood pressure in the same direction.
Eaten daily, especially for more than 12 weeks, flaxseed may modestly lower blood pressure on its own. Stacked on top of Rauzide, that could theoretically push your numbers a little too low, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, or faint when you stand up. This is only a theoretical, pharmacology-based concern, so don't panic. A serving of flaxseed on your oatmeal is unlikely to cause trouble, but check with your pharmacist before starting concentrated supplements.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina page
“Rauzide combines two blood-pressure medicines, the thiazide diuretic bendroflumethiazide and rauwolfia serpentina, so anything that also lowers pressure, pulls off fluid, or shifts electrolytes lands on already sensitive ground. This page warrants real caution.”
