Flaxseed + Benzthiazide
Benzthiazide brand name: Exna.
Flaxseed has a moderate interaction with Benzthiazide. Theoretically, flaxseed might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Benzthiazide
Benzthiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Clinical research shows that daily flaxseed consumption, especially for longer than 12 weeks, modestly reduces blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Benzthiazide (Exna) is a water pill, or thiazide diuretic, that lowers blood pressure by helping your body release extra salt and fluid. Flaxseed, when used regularly as a supplement, can also nudge blood pressure down a little, especially after about 12 weeks of daily use. So the concern here is simple: the two together may lower your blood pressure a bit more than either one alone.
For most people this is mild, but if your pressure drops too low you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, particularly when standing up. Keep in mind this is a theoretical interaction based on how each one works, not a strong warning. A sprinkle of flaxseed on food is unlikely to matter. If you take concentrated flaxseed supplements, just let your pharmacist or doctor know so they can keep an eye on your readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Benzthiazide page
“Benzthiazide (Exna), a thiazide water pill prescribed for high blood pressure and fluid retention, comes with a supplement list I would treat with genuine respect. Most of what appears here either drops blood pressure further than intended or deepens the potassium and fluid loss the drug already causes, and a handful can strain the kid…”

About Flaxseed
What is Flaxseed?
- Constipation and digestive health
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Menopausal symptoms
- Blood sugar support
Flaxseed is a nutritious food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats (ALA), and plant compounds called lignans. It is most reliably helpful for constipation and may modestly lower cholesterol, but evidence for many other uses is mixed or limited. It is generally safe as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Benzthiazide Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Benzthiazide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Flaxseed — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
