ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Olmesartan Medoxomil
Olmesartan Medoxomil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Clinical research shows that daily flaxseed consumption, especially for longer than 12 weeks, modestly reduces blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: olmesartan (Benicar) already lowers your blood pressure, and flaxseed may nudge it down a little more on its own. Studies suggest this mild effect mostly shows up with regular, fairly generous flaxseed intake over several weeks or more, not from a sprinkle on your oatmeal once in a while. So the two together could add up.
If your pressure drops too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how each one works, not a strong red-flag interaction. You don't need to avoid flaxseed, but it's smart to monitor your blood pressure at home and let your pharmacist or doctor know if you notice those symptoms.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Olmesartan Medoxomil page
“Olmesartan medoxomil (Benicar) lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, and nearly everything on this page, 119 of the 136 ingredients, pulls on that same lever, deepening the drop or working against it. Four entries rate major, which is why this list deserves genuine care rather than a quick skim.”
