Flaxseed + Valsartan
Valsartan brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan.
Flaxseed has a moderate interaction with Valsartan. Theoretically, flaxseed might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Valsartan
Valsartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Clinical research shows that daily flaxseed consumption, especially for longer than 12 weeks, modestly reduces blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: flaxseed itself can nudge your blood pressure down a little, especially if you eat it daily for more than about 12 weeks. Valsartan (Diovan) already works to lower your blood pressure, so stacking the two could in theory push it down a bit more than expected.
This is more of a 'good to know' than a red flag. The concern is mostly theoretical, and food amounts of flaxseed sprinkled on yogurt or oatmeal are very unlikely to cause trouble. With larger supplement doses, just keep an eye out for signs of low blood pressure, like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing up, or feeling unusually tired. If you notice those, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Flaxseed
What is Flaxseed?
- Constipation and digestive health
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Menopausal symptoms
- Blood sugar support
Flaxseed is a nutritious food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats (ALA), and plant compounds called lignans. It is most reliably helpful for constipation and may modestly lower cholesterol, but evidence for many other uses is mixed or limited. It is generally safe as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
About Valsartan
What Is Valsartan Used For?
Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan
Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.
Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.

Valsartan Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Valsartan as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Flaxseed — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
