Garcinia + Dexmethylphenidate
Dexmethylphenidate brand name: Focalin.
Garcinia has a moderate interaction with Dexmethylphenidate. Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Dexmethylphenidate
Dexmethylphenidate falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thinking behind this one. Garcinia (through its hydroxycitric acid) may gently nudge up serotonin activity in the brain. Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin) mainly boosts dopamine and norepinephrine, but it does have some serotonin-related activity too. Stack the two together and there's a theoretical chance of pushing serotonin too high, which is what we call serotonin syndrome.
Honestly, the evidence here is thin. It rests on a single case report involving antidepressants, not a stimulant like this one. Still, it's worth knowing the warning signs: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shaking, or feeling restless and overheated. Since those can overlap with normal stimulant side effects, it's smart to check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Garcinia.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dexmethylphenidate page
“Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin) is itself a prescription stimulant for ADHD, which is exactly why this list deserves real care rather than a quick skim. More than half of the 85 ingredients on file stimulate the nervous system too, so combining them can compound the racing heart, raised blood pressure, and sleeplessness the drug can alrea…”

About Garcinia
What is Garcinia?
- Weight loss
- Appetite suppression
- Curbing sugar and carb cravings
- Supporting metabolism
- Traditional cooking and souring agent
Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control. The scientific evidence is weak and mixed, with most studies showing only small or no meaningful weight effects, and rare reports of liver problems raise safety concerns. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have liver issues, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
About Dexmethylphenidate
What Is Dexmethylphenidate Used For?
Brand name: Focalin
Dexmethylphenidate — available as tablets (Focalin, Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride) and extended-release capsules (Focalin XR, Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride Extended-Release) — is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in both children and adults.
The extended-release capsule formulations are not recommended for children younger than 6 years old, because younger children tend to have higher drug exposure in their bodies and a greater chance of side effects such as weight loss compared to older children at the same dose.
