Here's the simple version: Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is already a stimulant that revs up your nervous system, speeds your heart rate, and can nudge your blood pressure up. Ephedra does almost the same thing through its main ingredient, ephedrine. Stacking two stimulants together doesn't just add their effects, it can pile them on top of each other.

That means a higher chance of racing or pounding heartbeat, dangerously high blood pressure, chest pain, anxiety, or in rare cases serious heart problems or stroke. Honestly, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for these very safety reasons, so I'd steer clear of it entirely. The evidence here is mostly anecdotal and theoretical, but the risk isn't worth it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything stimulant-like with your Focalin.

What Is Dexmethylphenidate Used For?

Brand name: Focalin

Dexmethylphenidate — available as tablets (Focalin, Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride) and extended-release capsules (Focalin XR, Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride Extended-Release) — is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in both children and adults.

The extended-release capsule formulations are not recommended for children younger than 6 years old, because younger children tend to have higher drug exposure in their bodies and a greater chance of side effects such as weight loss compared to older children at the same dose.
