Fluvoxamine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.

Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and your fluvoxamine (Luvox). Fluvoxamine is an SSRI, meaning it raises serotonin levels in your brain to help with OCD and anxiety. Garcinia may also nudge serotonin activity upward, so taking both together could theoretically push serotonin too high. That's the basis of a rare but serious problem called serotonin syndrome.

Signs to watch for would include agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness or muscle twitching, fever, or confusion. I'll be honest with you though: this warning rests on weak evidence, mostly a single case report involving other SSRIs, not fluvoxamine specifically. It isn't proven, but since Garcinia's benefits are unimpressive and it carries some liver risk, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?

Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.
