Garcinia and Naproxen, Pseudoephedrine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Naproxen, Pseudoephedrine

Naproxen, Pseudoephedrine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the main active ingredient in garcinia, might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
HCA inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. The inhibitory effect seems to be greater in platelets extracted from diabetic subjects than non-diabetic subjects.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know if you reach for Aleve Cold and Sinus while taking Garcinia. The naproxen part of this combo already nudges up your bleeding risk a little, since it thins the blood slightly and can irritate the stomach lining. Lab studies suggest Garcinia's active compound (HCA) may also make platelets a bit less sticky, so stacking the two could, in theory, add to that bleeding tendency.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on test-tube work rather than real patient reports, so don't panic. Still, keep an eye out for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or dark or bloody stools. If you take naproxen regularly or have a history of ulcers, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Garcinia.

“Aleve Cold and Sinus pairs naproxen, an anti-inflammatory painkiller, with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant that acts as a mild stimulant, and that combination is why its supplement list runs to 334 entries and deserves real vigilance. The two biggest themes mirror the two drugs.”

Garcinia
  • Weight loss
  • Appetite suppression
  • Curbing sugar and carb cravings
  • Supporting metabolism
  • Traditional cooking and souring agent

Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have liver issues, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
