Ciclesonide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist for chamomile and your asthma inhaler. Ciclesonide (Alvesco, Omnaris) is itself broken down in the body partly by an enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, German chamomile appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more active drug stick around than usual.

The good news: this is only test-tube evidence, and it has never actually been reported in people. With an inhaled or nasal steroid like ciclesonide, very little reaches the bloodstream to begin with, so a calming cup of chamomile tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Even if levels nudged up, you'd more likely notice mild local effects like throat irritation or oral thrush than anything serious. If you use concentrated chamomile supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye out.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
