Lomitapide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist for lomitapide (Juxtapid): your liver clears it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest German chamomile might slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in your body, lomitapide could build up to higher levels than expected. Since this is an active drug (not a prodrug), more of it usually means stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects, especially stomach and digestive trouble like nausea, diarrhea, and cramping, plus a greater strain on your liver, which this medication already requires close monitoring for.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube data, never confirmed in people. Lomitapide is a sensitive drug with strict CYP3A4 rules, so play it safe and ask your pharmacist or doctor before adding chamomile tea or capsules.

Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.

About Lomitapide

What Is Lomitapide Used For?

Brand name: Juxtapid

Juxtapid (lomitapide) is used alongside a low-fat diet and other cholesterol-lowering treatments — including LDL apheresis (a procedure that filters LDL from the blood) where available — to lower LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and non-HDL cholesterol in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH). HoFH is a rare, inherited condition that causes extremely high LDL cholesterol levels from birth.

Juxtapid is approved for use in adults and in children aged 2 years and older with HoFH. It has not been proven safe or effective for other types of high cholesterol, including the more common heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). Its effect on heart attacks, strokes, or other cardiovascular events has not been established.
