German Chamomile + Lovastatin
Lovastatin brand names: Mevacor, Altocor.
German Chamomile has a moderate interaction with Lovastatin. Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Lovastatin
Lovastatin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with chamomile tea and your lovastatin. Lovastatin is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, chamomile appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, your lovastatin could clear more slowly and build up a bit higher than expected.
With statins, higher levels can mean a greater chance of muscle aches, soreness, or weakness, and rarely more serious muscle problems. I want to stress this is theoretical right now, based only on test-tube work, and it has never actually been reported in patients. An occasional cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to be a problem. Still, if you sip it daily or use concentrated supplements, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lovastatin page
“Lovastatin (Mevacor) lowers cholesterol, and the liver clears it through an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is where most of these 184 supplements collide with it. This list deserves careful attention.”

About German Chamomile
What is German Chamomile?
- Anxiety and stress
- Sleep and relaxation
- Digestive upset
- Skin irritation and inflammation
- Mouth sores and gum irritation
German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.
About Lovastatin
What Is Lovastatin Used For?
Brand names: Mevacor, Altocor
Lovastatin is used to lower high LDL ("bad") cholesterol and total cholesterol in people whose levels have not improved enough with diet alone. It is also used to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries (coronary atherosclerosis) in people who already have coronary heart disease.
In adults without existing heart disease but with high cholesterol and low HDL ("good") cholesterol, lovastatin tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, unstable angina, and the need for procedures to open blocked arteries. Lovastatin tablets are also approved for adolescents aged 10–17 with a specific inherited condition called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH), when diet changes alone haven't been enough.

Lovastatin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lovastatin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with German Chamomile — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
