Acebutolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Goldenseal interacts with.

Theoretically, goldenseal might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Goldenseal contains berberine. Animal research shows that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, an analysis of clinical research shows that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. However, this effect has not been reported with goldenseal.

Here's the simple version: acebutolol (Sectral) already works to bring your blood pressure down and slow your heart rate. Goldenseal contains a compound called berberine, which in animal studies seems to nudge blood pressure lower too. Stack the two together and, in theory, your pressure could dip a bit more than expected.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or notice your pulse running slow. I want to be honest, though, this concern is theoretical and based mostly on lab and animal work, not real reports with goldenseal itself. So it's worth a mention, not a reason to panic. If you take both, keep an eye on how you feel and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before starting goldenseal.

What Is Acebutolol Used For?

Acebutolol Hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics.

They are also used to treat ventricular premature beats — extra, out-of-rhythm heartbeats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart. Acebutolol reduces how often these abnormal beats occur, including complex patterns that can be more concerning.
