Dapagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Goldenseal interacts with.

Theoretically, goldenseal might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Goldenseal contains berberine. Clinical research shows that berberine can lower blood glucose levels. However, this effect has not been reported with goldenseal.

Here's the simple version: goldenseal contains a compound called berberine, and in research studies berberine on its own can nudge blood sugar a little lower. Farxiga (dapagliflozin) already works to bring your blood sugar down by sending extra sugar out through your urine. Stack the two together and, in theory, your blood sugar could dip lower than you want.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how berberine behaves, and low blood sugar actually hasn't been reported with goldenseal itself. Dapagliflozin alone rarely causes hypoglycemia unless you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. Still, if you start goldenseal, it's smart to watch for shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
