Goldenseal + Enalapril Maleate
Enalapril Maleate brand names: Vasotec, Epaned.
Goldenseal has a moderate interaction with Enalapril Maleate. Theoretically, goldenseal might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Enalapril Maleate
Enalapril Maleate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Goldenseal interacts with.
Goldenseal contains berberine. Animal research shows that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, an analysis of clinical research shows that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. However, this effect has not been reported with goldenseal.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned) lowers your blood pressure, and goldenseal contains berberine, which may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. Put them together and, in theory, the two could add up. That might leave you a bit too low, with symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling faint when you stand up quickly, or just feeling unusually tired.
I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This concern is mostly theoretical, based on animal studies and on berberine (not goldenseal itself) in research. We don't have solid human data showing goldenseal actually drops blood pressure alongside enalapril. So it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if your pressure already runs on the low side, but it's not a reason to panic.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Enalapril Maleate page
“Potassium is the supplement I worry about first with enalapril maleate (Vasotec, Epaned). This ACE inhibitor, used for high blood pressure and heart failure, already makes the body hold onto potassium, so adding more can raise blood levels too far, a problem called hyperkalemia.”

About Goldenseal
What is Goldenseal?
- Digestive upset and diarrhea
- Colds and respiratory infections
- Sore throat and mouth sores
- Skin and eye irritation (topical/traditional)
- Antimicrobial support
Goldenseal is a popular North American herb that contains berberine, a compound studied for antimicrobial effects. However, strong human evidence for its many traditional uses is largely lacking, and it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it.
About Enalapril
What Is Enalapril Used For?
Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned
Enalapril treats high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
It also treats symptomatic heart failure. It is used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (a weak pumping chamber of the heart without symptoms) to slow the development of overt heart failure and reduce hospital stays for heart failure. Enalapril oral solution (including Epaned) is labeled for high blood pressure in adults and children older than one month.

Enalapril Maleate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Enalapril Maleate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Goldenseal — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
