Grape + Paroxetine
Paroxetine brand names: Paxil CR, Paxil, Brisdelle.
Grape has a moderate interaction with Paroxetine. Theoretically, grape seed extract may increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Paroxetine
Paroxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Grape interacts with.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape seed extract might inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for paroxetine (Paxil): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down and clear it out. In lab studies (test tube only), grape seed extract appeared to slow that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in a real person, paroxetine could build up a bit and you might notice more of its usual side effects, things like drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, or feeling jittery.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is, though. This has never actually been seen in people, only in lab dishes, so the real-world risk looks low. Eating grapes is no concern. If you're thinking about a concentrated grape seed supplement while on paroxetine, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Paroxetine page
“I treat paroxetine (Paxil, Paxil CR, Brisdelle) as a medication where supplement choices genuinely matter, not one to wave through. This antidepressant raises serotonin, so about twenty of the ingredients listed here, lithium among them, can push serotonin too high and risk serotonin syndrome, a dangerous reaction.”

About Grape
What is Grape?
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and circulation health
- Vein problems (such as varicose veins)
- Eye health
- General anti-inflammatory support
Grapes and grape products like grape seed extract contain antioxidant compounds such as resveratrol and proanthocyanidins that may support heart and blood vessel health. While the food is healthy and generally safe, the supplement evidence for treating specific conditions is mostly limited or preliminary. Paroxetine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Paroxetine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Grape — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
