Pimozide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Here's the short version: pimozide is cleared from your body mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In the lab, green tea has shown mixed signals, it can slow this enzyme in the gut but speed it up in the liver. On paper, slowing it down could let pimozide build up, and that matters because pimozide can affect heart rhythm (a QT prolongation risk) at higher levels. The good news is that in actual human studies, green tea doesn't seem to meaningfully change CYP3A4 activity.

So for most people, a cup or two of green tea alongside pimozide is unlikely to cause real problems. Concentrated green tea extract pills are less predictable, so loop in your pharmacist or doctor before starting those, since pimozide is a drug where small changes deserve respect.

What Is Pimozide Used For?

Brand name: Orap

Pimozide tablets are used to suppress the motor tics (involuntary movements) and phonic tics (involuntary sounds or vocalizations) that occur in Tourette's Disorder. It is reserved for patients whose daily life or development is severely affected by these tics.

Pimozide is not a first-choice treatment, and it is not meant for tics that are only mildly bothersome or cosmetic in nature. It should only be considered when standard treatments have not worked well enough.
