Benazepril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Guarumo interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of guarumo leaf can lower blood pressure when administered intravenously to rats. Theoretically, concomitant use of antihypertensive drugs with guarumo might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Lotensin HCT pairs benazepril, an ACE inhibitor that relaxes your blood vessels, with hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill that helps your body shed extra fluid. Both lower blood pressure. Guarumo tea has shown some blood-pressure-lowering activity too, but so far mainly in animal studies where extracts were given by injection. So this is more of a theoretical concern than a proven one.

The worry is simple addition: if guarumo nudges your pressure down on top of your medication, the two together could push it too low. Watch for dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, fatigue, or feeling faint. This isn't a reason to panic or to stop anything, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your home readings if you use guarumo.
