Hedge Mustard and Cabotegravir, Rilpivirine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cabotegravir, Rilpivirine and Hedge Mustard in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cabotegravir, Rilpivirine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cabotegravir, Rilpivirine is filed under 4 classifications — including non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (nnrtis), glucuronidated drugs, qt interval-prolonging drugs. Hedge Mustard has documented interactions with 6 drug classes — the most serious being digoxin (lanoxin) (moderate), diuretic drugs (moderate) and macrolide antibiotics (moderate) — and none of Cabotegravir, Rilpivirine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

About Hedge Mustard

What is Hedge Mustard?

  • Hoarseness and voice loss
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Mild laryngitis
  • Throat irritation

Hedge mustard is a traditional European herb long nicknamed the 'singer's plant' because it was used to soothe hoarseness and sore throats. Solid scientific evidence for these uses is very limited, so it is best seen as a folk remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Sisymbrium officinale · Brassicaceae · Aerial parts (leaves, stems, flowers) and seeds · Tea, syrup, tincture, lozenges, gargle/throat preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hedge Mustard is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hedge Mustard record says about it on its own.

Hedge Mustard: dosing

There is no well-established standardized dose for hedge mustard. Traditional use involves teas, syrups, and tinctures made from the aerial parts of the plant, but amounts vary widely between products and recipes. If you choose to use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine Injections

What Is Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine Injections Used For?

Brand name: Cabenuva

CABENUVA (cabotegravir + rilpivirine) is used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents 12 years and older who weigh at least 35 kg (about 77 lbs). It is not a starter treatment — it's designed for people who are already virologically suppressed, meaning their HIV is currently undetectable on a stable daily pill regimen and who have no history of treatment failure.

The goal is to keep the virus fully suppressed while freeing the person from taking a pill every day. Because it stays active in the body for weeks after each injection, strict adherence to the injection schedule is essential.
