Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
Why this applies to Oxcarbazepine
Oxcarbazepine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this pairing. Oxcarbazepine can mildly speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Hemp agrimony naturally contains compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can be hard on the liver on their own. The worry is that by revving up that enzyme, oxcarbazepine could turn more of those plant compounds into liver-damaging byproducts. So this isn't about your seizure medicine working differently. It's about possibly making the herb's liver risk worse.
I'll be honest, this concern comes only from lab and animal data, so it's theoretical. But since hemp agrimony can harm the liver even by itself, most experts already advise against taking it internally. Please run any product containing it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Hemp Agrimony
What is Hemp Agrimony?
- Digestive complaints
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Respiratory conditions
- Mild fever
- Traditional 'tonic' or detox use
Hemp agrimony is a traditional European herb that has been used for digestion, colds, and as a general tonic, but there is very little reliable human research to support these uses. More importantly, the plant can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver, so most experts do not recommend taking it internally. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product that contains hemp agrimony.
