Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for lansoprazole (Prevacid). Your body partly clears this acid-reducer using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a lab dish, higenamine slowed that enzyme down by about 21%. In theory, that could let a bit more lansoprazole linger in your system, which might mean slightly stronger effects or a higher chance of side effects like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset.

That said, this is only test-tube data and has never been shown to happen in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Lansoprazole is also a pretty forgiving drug, not one where small shifts cause big trouble. My bigger concern with higenamine is its heart and blood pressure effects. Run it by your pharmacist before combining the two.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
