Omeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP2C19 enzyme. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to clear out omeprazole. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab dishes appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a person, omeprazole could linger a bit longer and its effects could be slightly stronger. Omeprazole is generally a very forgiving, well-tolerated drug, so the most you'd likely notice is mild stuff like headache, nausea, or loose stools.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is purely theoretical, based on test-tube work, and it has never been reported in actual people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you'd like to use a concentrated Hu Zhang supplement alongside your omeprazole, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first just to be safe.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: Hu Zhang is loaded with resveratrol, and in a test tube resveratrol can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Your body uses that enzyme (along with another one called CYP2C19) to clear omeprazole. If it were slowed down, omeprazole could hang around a bit longer than usual, which in theory might mean slightly stronger acid-blocking and a touch more chance of side effects like headache, nausea, gas, or loose stools.

The good news is this is mostly a theory based on lab work. In a real human study, even 3000 mg of resveratrol daily didn't force any dose changes for CYP3A4 medicines. So for most people this is low-concern. Still, if you plan to take Hu Zhang regularly, give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up so they can keep an eye on things.

About Omeprazole

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Prilosec, Zegerid, Losec

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
