Rizatriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, taking iboga with serotonergic drugs might increase levels of serotonin, resulting in additive effects with serotonergic drugs.
Ibogaine, a constituent in iboga, has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with iboga might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using iboga with serotonergic drugs.

Rizatriptan works by acting on serotonin receptors to help calm a migraine. Iboga (through its main compound, ibogaine) also nudges up serotonin activity in the brain. So when you put these two together, the concern is too much serotonin signaling at once. In rare cases that can trigger a reaction called serotonin syndrome, with symptoms like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion.

I want to be honest that this warning is theoretical, based on how each one works rather than on real reports of people combining them. That said, I'd steer well clear of Iboga entirely. Ibogaine is illegal here and has caused dangerous heart rhythm problems and deaths on its own. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with your migraine medicine.

What Is Rizatriptan Used For?

Brand name: Rizafilm

Rizatriptan treats migraine headaches — with or without aura — when they occur. It is approved for adults and for children and teens ages 6 to 17. It is available as a regular tablet (Maxalt, Rizatriptan, Rizatriptan Benzoate), an orally disintegrating tablet (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT, Rizatriptan Benzoate ODT), and a dissolving oral film placed on the tongue (Rizafilm).

Rizatriptan is for stopping a migraine once it starts — it is not meant to prevent migraines from happening, and it is not approved for cluster headaches. It should only be used after a doctor has confirmed a migraine diagnosis.
