Here's the thing about Synalgos DC: one of its three ingredients is aspirin, which already thins your blood by quieting down platelets, the cells that help you clot. The caffeine in guayusa is thought to have a mild blood-thinning effect of its own, so on paper, sipping guayusa alongside this medication could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. In real life, this is a theoretical concern, drawn from pharmacology rather than actual reports in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, keep an eye out for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. And remember, this combo doubles up your caffeine, so you may feel extra jittery or have a racing heart. If you take Synalgos DC regularly, just run your guayusa habit past your pharmacist or doctor.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: your Synalgos DC tablets already contain caffeine built right into them. Guayusa is basically another source of caffeine, brewed like a tea. So drinking it alongside your medicine means you're stacking caffeine on top of caffeine.

When that happens, you may notice the typical jittery side effects pile up: a racing or pounding heart, feeling shaky or anxious, trouble sleeping, and an upset stomach. This is largely a theoretical concern based on expert opinion, not strong studies, so it isn't dangerous for most people. Still, if you find yourself wired or your heart is fluttering, that's worth mentioning. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, especially if you have heart issues.

About Ilex Guayusa

What is Ilex Guayusa?

  • Energy and alertness
  • Mental focus
  • Antioxidant support
  • Appetite control
  • Athletic and physical performance

Ilex guayusa is a caffeine-containing holly leaf from the Amazon, traditionally brewed as a tea for energy and alertness, much like yerba mate or green tea. There is limited human research confirming specific health benefits, and its main reliable effect comes from its caffeine content. Because it is a stimulant, use it cautiously and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have heart concerns or are pregnant.
